Marin County Fair Goes Green with ALT FUEL ROAD SHOW

County fairs conjure up images of exhibits of apple pies, berry jams, and 4-H prize pets. Families squeal with excitement on Ferris wheels and yelp with delight at dazzling fireworks displays. This year at the Marin County Fair, the familiar American summer image has shifted from a red, white, and blue traditon to a GREEN theme.
Thomas Friedman, author of The World Is Flat and New York Times columnist, claims "Green is the new red, white, and blue. Green is the color of patriotism. We look at environmentalism as a hobby for the high minded. But actually conserving energy is one of the most patriotic things you can do today."
Marin County Fair at the Civic Center, July 2-6th is kicking off its GREEN theme with environmental expert Danny Seo as keynote speaker on opening day, July 2 at 6 p.m. in the Marin Veteran's Memorial Auditorium. Seo is a leading authority on modern, eco-friendly living.
At his keynote address in July 3rd-6 p.m, Martin Eberhard and the Tesla Roadster will highlight the fair's GREEN theme as a timely response to CA's high fuel prices. Eberhard, founder of Tesla Motors has been named by Fortune Magazine as one of their top eco-conscious innovators of 2007. Wired Magazine has named the Tesla the 2007 Car of the Year. His high-tech, electric Tesla roadster runs on battery power and goes over 130 mph, covering more than 200 miles on a single charge.
Eberhard's Tesla will be one of the 25 alternative fuel and high MPG vehicles at the ALT FUEL ROAD SHOW exhibit. You can view mopeds, tractors, scooters, bicycles, and cars powered by a variety of fuel types, including hybrid, electric, compressed natural gas,plug-in hybrid, high MPG gasoline, ethanol and biodiesel.
The Marin County Fair has joined over 1,000 Bay Area businesses in the Green Business program.

The Marin Mountain Play Discovered the Emerald City on Mt. Tam

Since 1913 The Mountain Play has provided summer family entertainment on top of Mt. Tamalpais in Mill Valley. This year the Mountain Play Association staged the popular Wizard of Oz play from mid-May to mid -June. Following the play's Emerald City or GREEN theme, all 100,000 poster and postcard advertisements of the play were printed on recycled paper. The Foundation also coordinated several green-oriented non- profit organizations to provide information to the play -goers which taught them ecological best practices. Marin Municipal Water District, the Marin County Bicycle Coalition, a Green Sangha or Buddhist organization, and LC Biodiesel were represented there.
Although FREE buses were provided from Mill Valley for the roundtrip ride to Cushing Memorial Amphitheatre, many of the over 4,000 Mountain Play patrons elected to hike or bike to the event. Some people regard the exercise as an important part of the annual play's entire outdoor experience.
