You Can Meet Me at House Of Lee

For A Feast Of Friends Or A Lousy Date

Are you hungry, maybe looking to entertain? If you’re like me in college then money is usually tight. One great option in the downtown San Rafael area is the Chinese restaurant House of Lee.

Located on 4th St. at Lootens Ave. House of Lee is one of the most authentic Chinese food restaurants I've tried. House of Lee is also one of my favorite restaurants in San Rafael.

You can order a feast for up to four friends for less than fifty dollars. In addition to serving family style entrees, House of Lee is also an exellent dim sum restaurant. Dim sum (soft-dough dumplings) are typically eaten at breakfast or lunch in China.

If you haven’t had dim sum before, the Pan Fried Pot Sticker with Vegetables and Pork is a familiar treat loaded with succulent pork and served with a tangy soy sauce. Also try the Steamed Chicken Bun with Vegetables bits of tender chicken and hearty vegetables stuffed into a steamed baozi bun most delectable with soy sauce. Although the best dish on the dim sum menu is certainly the Deep-Fried Meat Dumpling, delectably sweet beef in a neatly fried batter comes three per order but never seems to be enough.

Feeling adventurous? Try the Streamed Chicken Feet with Black Bean Sauce… that’s right chicken feet. By far the oddest thing on the menu, the chicken’s feet, is representative of some dishes found in many eateries of mainland China. Steamed till the meat is falling off the bone and marinated in a dark black bean sauce the Steamed Chicken Feet is surprisingly delicious if you’re open to strange foods.

Although if this is too much, House of Lee has introduced a new dish to their dim sum menu, Steamed Spareribs with Black Bean Sauce– a bowl of bite-sized bits of ribs steamed in a light black bean sauce. The spare ribs make an excellent addition to an already exemplary menu. Next time you're looking for cheap eats or some great take out, House of Lee is the place.
