Kay Bradner Unfurled Downtown
The Donna Seager Gallery in downtown San Rafael opened a new exhibit this month celebrating the recent completion of Kay Bradner’s new series of nautical paintings Unfurled. The exhibit features predominantly oil on aluminum sheet paintings depicting the majestic scenery of and from the deck, lush sails full of wind, boaters rowing and sea lions frolicking in the ocean.
Bradner’s use of color and contrast of clearly defined lines in the foreground juxtaposed by abstracted scenery in the background animate the paintings vividly. The quintessential painting in the series appears to be “Mendowitz’s FREDA” (pictured left), an excellent example of Bradner’s versatile manipulation of form and color. Pieces like “Furled” and “Personal Space” also distinguish themselves from the rest of the exhibit. The exhibition will end on June 30th.
Sharing the same building space as Donna Seager Gallery is the Artisans Gallery, a non-profit gallery providing artists and the San Rafael community with a space to display and distribute art to the masses. Their latest showing Americana is a collection of local artists 2D and 3D pieces ranging from paintings and photographs, to lamps, all with a nostalgic essence about them. The pieces represent each artist's desire to return to a previous time in their lives. This exhibit ends June 28th and will be followed by Earth Awareness which will gravitate around green and renewable themes.
