Frida Kahlo Exhibit at San Francisco Museum of Modern Art

Saturday, June 14, 2008 - Sunday, September 28, 2008

Mexican artist Frida Kahlo, wife and protègée of muralist Diego Rivera, began painting in 1926 in a folkloric style, while recovering from a near-fatal bus accident. Many of her paintings express both Mexican popular art, and fantastical imagery hinting of her personal pain. Recognized first by the Surrealists, her intriguing persona and unmistakable originality insured her place as a leading figure in modern art. This exhibition commemorates the centennial of the artist's birth, and brings together paintings that span her career. It includes a selection of her own collection of photographs, most of which have never been on public display.
