No Splendor In This Grass
FEATURE:
Marin ranchers are facing the worst grass drought year since the 1870s. Dairy and beef cattle operations as well as sheep ranches are all feeling the squeeze. Relief, if and when it comes may be too late for many.
The challenge to livestock operations is not exclusive to Marin either; up and down the state the lack of forage spells an agricultural disaster. Compound this with the high cost of trucking in hay when fuel prices are soaring and it's easy to see why livestock operations are threatened.
